Feel the Energy – in truly hands-on training courses

Check out the real-world learning environment at the Houston Training Center

When training courses are offered as hands-on in the power system testing industry, it often just means the practical use of test sets. But training is much more effective if real testing situations are enabled in the classroom.

The OMICRON Academy Training Center in Houston is perfectly designed for a very effective training experience. At this state-of the art facility, you will lay your hands on real assets and literally feel the energy during the learning process. You will use our test equipment to perform your own diagnostic tests on these assets and assess the results together with the instructor.

Key features

  • 10 MVA power transformer to perform all typical electrical power transformer tests as well as advanced diagnostics
  • 69 kV SF6 circuit breaker and a 15 kV vacuum breaker for circuit breaker testing

Optimized working with IEC 61850 devices

Version 4 of IEDScout software available

OMICRON’s IEDScout 4.00 software tool for easy and manufacturer-independent IED analyses now supports edition 2 of IEC 61850 and IEC 61400-25. It visualizes the commissioning workflow and shows the description texts as defined in the standard. In addition, a new user interface assists in finding all relevant IED information.

This software runs on a PC and supports protection and substation automation engineers, who work with IEC 61850 devices, in a variety of applications, such as testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and IED development. It allows users to look inside IEC 61850 IEDs from any vendor and to work with multiple IEDs simultaneously.

IEDScout enables users to drag and drop information to the new Activity Monitor. This combines reports, GOOSE, datasets and polling of any type of data. In addition, it comes with an intelligent and powerful SCL parser to check the quality of the engineering files according to IEC 61850-6. The software’s new user interface also enables engineers to browse and discover the IED’s data model.

Substation engineers can use this tool for assessing the status of an IED, manipulating data, or obtaining the information required to configure testing with GOOSE messages. During commissioning, IEDScout provides client functionality without requiring a functioning master station. IED developers can use this tool to verify the structure and the functionality of the devices under development.
